Electronic Cigarette Ingredients: What Is VG?

Posted by 2 on

There are four common ingredients found in eliquid (the liquid found inside electronic cigarettes), one of these is Vegetable Glycerol (also referred to as VG, Glycerin or Glycerine). Glycerol is a naturally occurring, simple sugar alcohol compound which is thick, colorless and odourless. Glycerol is widely used in pharmaceuticals, it is also used in the food industry as a sweetener and preservative, as a filler in low fat foods and as a thickening agent in liqueurs. In food, Glycerol is referred to as E number E422. Glycerol is classified as being a carbohydrate with a very low toxicity level. Although it has...

One of the four most commonly found ingredients in eliquid (the liquid found inside electronic cigarettes) is Propylene Glycol (PG). Posted by 2 on

I have seen a few articles over the last couple of months from journalists stating that electronic cigarettes do not address the issue of smoking, they simply replace one addiction with another. These articles all stress their concerns about smokers switching to electronic cigarettes to quit smoking but instead they end up replacing the cigarettes with electronic cigarettes and never actually quit. Well, electronic cigarettes are not sold as a smoking cessation device, they are sold as a smoking alternative. The fact is, most people smoke because they enjoy smoking. It is true that nicotine is addictive and that smokers...

E cigarettes less harmful says Earl Howe, UK Health Minister

Posted by 2 on

In the House of Lords Hansard for 20 November 2013 ( pt 1 ), Viscount Ridley asks "on what evidence they based the information on the NHS website that the toxicity of e-cigarettes is one thousandth of that of tobacco cigarettes". The response by The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health, Earl Howe (Con) was that "The National Health Service website states that the level of toxins in electronic cigarettes is about one thousandth of that in cigarette smoke, which came from the findings of United States scientists Zachary Cahn and Michael Siegel published in the Journal of Public Health Policy in December 2010. The available evidence...
