MEPs reject proposal to treat electronic cigarettes as medicinal products

Posted by 2 on

Euro MP's voted yesterday on proposals to tighten anti-smoking laws aimed at young smokers. The proposals included treating electronic cigarettes as medicinal products, a proposal which was rejected. At Litejoy we welcome this move and believe strongly that it will allow the electronic cigarette industry to continue to grow and offer smokers a healthier alternative to smoking. Another proposal was for packs of 10 cigarettes to be banned as they are considered to be popular among younger smokers, this proposal was approved and will potentially be effective from 2014. Although this will remove the low cost packs from shops and make it less attractive for younger smokers to purchase packs of 20, this will also affect older smokers, who, in the current economic climate, often purchase the smaller packs at around £3-4 to tide them over until they can afford to purchase the packs of 20 usually priced around £7-8. Again, this is where we believe electronic cigarettes will be a great alternative. A single electronic cigarette refill costs just £3 (as part of our 5 pack of cartomisers at £14.99), this is the approximate equivalent of 40 cigarettes, giving you almost 4 times the cigarettes for the cost of the banned 10 pack of cigarettes. Throughout October, you can purchase an electronic cigarette starter kit from Litejoy and save 20% when you enter promotion code: STOPTOBERYNZ on the basket page. Litejoy Electronic cigarettes
